Henry David Thoreau: “It is what a man thinks of himself that really determines his fate.”
A key word in that sentence is “thinks.”
Want to jump higher? Start thinking of yourself as a Superhero. Set goals that scare the heck out of you — then climb over the railing and jump. One leap after another, with your mind focused on what you want to achieve for yourself and others.
Much of life is out of our control, but you can learn to control your thoughts and reactions, as you grow your resilience. You’re limited by your thoughts. So change your thinking!
Superheroes don’t give up, which is why we can’t get enough of them.
Was it hard the first time you tried to tie your shoe? Ugh. So hard. You were all thumbs. But you forced yourself to keep trying, because you didn’t want to be “that kid” who walked around with trailing laces. And deep down, you BELIEVED you could do it because millions of people have done so.
Well, guess what? Life demands that you KEEP on trying. (We NEVER get a pass to stall out. To stop trying and growing and succeeding is to be among the walking dead.) Zombie or Superhero? YOU DECIDE.
You were made for hard stuff. You are a Superhero in the making. Take that first scary leap. And the next one. They won’t stay scary forever. YOU CAN DO THIS!
